There’s a recent trend in the personal development community for personal coaching services. Coaching has always been offered but the price kept it out of the reach of most people. Now with more competition in the field and the need to increase revenue beyond the sales of books, CDs, and DVDs, personal coaching has become more affordable and widespread. It’s still costs substantially more than buying a DVD course. Coaching programs typically cost thousands of dollars for a six- or twelve-month program. The question you need to ask is: do you really need a coach to achieve your goals?
Your coach won’t be the author or guru directly. It will be an associate who has been trained on the author’s methods. You’ll generally get phone and email access. Your coach will help you clarify your goal, mentor you, help keep your focus and motivate you along the way. Many self-help authors rarely, if ever, do personal coaching, and only if they are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. They simply do not have the time to do that if they are writing, travelling and speaking.
I think a big key to your success is the ability to motivate yourself. If you cannot motivate yourself to achieve, then either your goals are misaligned with your true desires, or you are just lazy. If you are lazy, then that should be your first priority. You won’t achieve anything if you do not have the motivation to take action.
Look, I’m not knocking any of the coaching programs. If you feel you need a coach to help you, then look into it. It may really help you. But I would give serious thought to your true desires before forking over thousands of dollars to be motivated.
